Realdania passes strategic milestone for mission-oriented investments

30 January 2026

Realdania has achieved a key goal in its investment strategy for 2020–2026: Five percent of the association’s total commercial investment assets are now invested in mission-oriented investments.

Since 2020, Realdania has built up a portfolio of what are known as mission-oriented investments – investments that will both deliver a competitive return and at the same time support the association’s philanthropic work. In 2025, Realdania met its strategic goal of placing five percent of its total commercial investment assets in mission-oriented investments. At the end of 2025, the market value of these amounted to DKK 1,452 million.

These mission-oriented investments are aimed at developing the construction sector and will help to accelerate the green transition by supporting the circular economy, reduction of CO2 emissions, energy renovation and increased efficiency in the real estate sector.

“The construction industry is facing a major restructuring process if we are to reduce the climate footprint of the sector. With our mission-oriented investments, we wish to help guide the development in the right direction by investing in companies that develop new solutions and technologies in construction. In this way, our investments can both generate returns and at the same time support the changes for which we work through our philanthropic efforts. So it’s an important milestone for us,” says Kenneth Lillelund Winther, Investment Director at Realdania.

New investment

As part of the continued development of the portfolio, Realdania has invested in Kompas Venture Fund II. The fund invests in European startups, with a focus on, inter alia, reducing CO2 emissions and increasing the efficiency of industrial processes in the construction sector.

Specifically, the fund aims to invest in about 25 companies that work with:

  • Digitalisation of the construction sector

  • Energy optimisation and new materials technologies

  • Artificial intelligence and predictive IT for optimisation and risk management

Kompas was founded in 2021 by VKR Holding as an independent investment company.

The investment is another example of how, through mission-oriented investments, Realdania works to promote new solutions and technologies that can support the building practices of the future and accelerate the green transition – both in Denmark and internationally.
