How We Invest

We diversify our investments and manage the assets actively as we aim to achieve long-term higher returns at lower market risk.

Our investment assets are divided into eight main asset classes, each with specific investment characteristics:

  • Money Market (cash and money market instruments)

  • Fixed Income Investment Grade (global government, corporate and mortgage-credit bonds with high credit rating)

  • Fixed Income Non Investment Grade (global government, corporate and mortgage-credit bonds with lower credit rating)

  • Equities (global listed equities)

  • Private Equity (global non-listed equities)

  • Alternative Investments (investments with special characteristics in relation to other main asset classes)

  • Real Estate (non-philanthropic global investments in real estate)

  • Mission Related Investments (investments that support one or more philanthropic targets defined via selected UN sustainable development goals)

Realdania’s investment strategy provides the foundation for generating the highest possible returns to support our philanthropic work and mission — while at the same time protecting Realdania’s equity. The investment strategy reflects our ambition to remain relevant for both current and future generations.

Investment Strategy

Our investment strategy secures a framework for maximizing the risk-adjusted returns to support our philanthropic work and to protect our equity. The board of directors sets the strategy, the executive management board makes tactical decisions, and the investment team is responsible for day-to-day operations.

Responsible Investments

Realdania is a responsible investor. We continuously develop our approach to ESG, guided by the belief that risk-adjusted returns and responsible investment go hand in hand. Our aim is to strike the right balance between generating returns and acting responsibly—both in our internal investments and in those managed by our external asset managers.

Missions-related investments

Mission-related investments are designed to generate positive impact in support of Realdania’s mission while delivering market-level returns. In practice, this means investing in solutions that help transform the built environment – such as circular construction, reduced CO₂ emissions, energy renovation, and more efficient use of resources in the property sector.
